What is Digital Signage?

Change the way your customers and staff perceive, think, feel, act and decide

Digital signage is known by many names*, but it all boils down to getting an electronic message to a display somewhere on the planet. You may not know a lot about it, but it’s already a part of your life.

You’ve seen digital signage in airports, restaurants, banks, shopping malls, lobbies, store aisles, casinos, post offices, and checkout lanes. Wal-Mart has found them so effective they’ve created an in-store network that is now the fifth largest television network in the US, viewed by over 180 million people a month.

A Digital Signage Network (DSN) can be as simple as a single PC connected to a storefront window display — or as complex as a wired and wireless hybrid network that uses plasma screens and the latest holographic display technologies.

Digital signage is very flexible. With a little help, you can set up a tailored network that meets your business needs and speaks specifically to your customers, employees or guests.

 The benefits of digital signage

  • Flexibility
  • Agility
  • Dynamic integration
  • Centralized controls
  • Low staffing costs
  • Up-to-the-minute adaptability
  • Increased consumer enjoyment and empowerment

Digital signage offers more than any traditional marketing activity

Capture attention
You can use news, celebrities, animation, music, and special offers to draw people in. In an August 2006 Nielsen study, 78 percent of respondents said a DSN was an easy way to learn about a new product, 68 percent said the digital signage would influence their purchase decision, and 44 percent said they’d buy the signage-advertised product instead of the one they had planned on!
Enhance your brand
Digital signage can keep your brand image ever present and help you build the associations you want. The right content can make a pair of jeans look hip or a bank appear trustworthy and secure.
Educate & Merchandise
One large electronics retailer discovered that sales of high-tech products increased when their digital signs explained product features. In fact, the DSN educated not only customers but sales clerks, too.
Create atmosphere
Relaxing music and images will help keep people comfortable and calm. Scientific studies have even shown that DSNs reduce perceived wait time; if people have something fun to watch, they don’t mind queuing up quite so much. DSNs can also help build excitement: In casinos, they tell you which slot machine has just hit the jackpot and which race is about to start.
Entertain
Happy customers spend more. With digital signage, you can stream engaging and entertaining content to ensure that your customers are as happy as possible.

The potential applications of digital signage are limited only by your imagination.
